MY FIRST SERVICE

I bought my 2008 6.4 4x4 about 60 days ago. I'm about to perform my first service. I've grown up around a transfer trucks so I know a little. Can you guys tell me exactly what I need to do for my first? I know of course, oil, oil filter, and fuel filter. Is there anything else?

You didn't mention what mileage you're at. The owners manual and diesel supplement are good guides.

read up on the definitions ford gives to the types of service duty and understand the different maint schedules based on the service duty classification.

a lot of folks operate in "severe duty conditions" due to high idle time (city stop and go traffic) and should not be playing the extended maint schedule game.

use a fuel lube additive like opti lube or run b-5 if its available.

Service

Thanks guys! This site is really helpful for guys like me. The truck is about to turn 160k miles. I've been using Lucas in about every other tank as well.
I'm having a pretty bad vibration up to about 32 MPH. I've got to figure that out as well.

You mention "fuel filter" in the singular. There are two of them just to be certain.

No problem. I follow the severe duty maintenance schedule as others have mentioned. I rarely tow and drive mostly in the city. I have deleted and/or disabled the emissions equipment though...so it's not nearly as hard on the truck to make short trips.

The primary fuel filter is underneath the truck mounted on the driver side frame rail at the low pressure fuel pump/fuel/water separator. The secondary filter is mounted on top of the motor next to the oil filter. Use Motorcraft filters only for oil and fuel IMO.

That's great info! My emissions have been deleted as well. I bought it that way though. It has an H&S Tuner.
