Did V10 SD come without catalytic converter?
I want to get new exhaust for my F250 V10 but every kit I look at says "Cat Back". I've had my truck since 17 miles. I am the second owner, the first owner bought a fleet of these but never used this one and it went to auction and I bought it. I'll assume with 17 miles the exhaust wasn't messed with. I have no cat on my truck. The pics show my original exhaust. I want to get a kit from the 4 bolt flange to the tail pipe but looking at online catalogs isn't providing much. I don't want anything fancy, maybe duals? Any clue if the truck may have come sans a cat and any kits that might meet my needs?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Right where the catalytic converter should be there isn't one. And you're right, it definitely looks like factory pipe. What does your under the hood emissions label say? Mine says "CATALYST" on the bottom toward the left, next to the engine group info. If yours doesn't say catalyst, then I guess it's possible it didn't come with one?

I never saw a 5.4l or 6.8l without a cat converter from the factory. I also don't know how you would pass inspection.(emissions) If memory serves me right you should have 2 cats a short distance behind the exhaust manifolds and a post cat under the truck around where the first hanger is on your 05'. I live very close to you in the same county and my 04' V10 would not pass inspection without a cat. I would have taken the cat off if it would. Government vehicles (like fire) are exempt (what a shocker) so they can pull the cats off if they need.
Anyway the exhaust clamp behind the first hanger is close enough to where a lot of catbacks will hook up. If you can't make the catback work yourself just take it up to Red Run Exhaust and they can install it for you. You can have them bend up a system too but they do not have a mandrel bender. Also don't go with a tiny muffler on the V10, they sound like crap. A Flowmaster 70BB2 or 50 Big Block muffler is about the best you can get for sound quality. I have used them for years on a couple V10s. I wouldn't go duals, they are basically pointless on a truck that runsthe exhaust down one side of the truck only. A 3.5" catback exhaust (at at least a 3.5" tailpipe after muffler) would be optimal.

FWIW, my '01 F-350 V10 did not have cats. I bought it at 160k miles, it did have a pair of flowmasters and duals from there back, but up stream of the mufflers "looked" bone stock on it. I don't even remember what GVWR it had, but I just always assumed they didn't require cats at a certain weight rating? I recall reading something about the OBD-II being dumbed down basically on trucks over a certain GVWR during those years. Always figured that played a part in it

Yes there were trucks that came without catalysts, but as two posts in this thread have already mentioned so far, look at the sticker under the hood. If the original sticker is there, it will say CATALYST if it came with one from the factory and NON-CATALYST if it didn't. It really is as simple as that.

Military and Tactical vehicles are exempt. Emergency vehicles are given more leeway. That is not including state exemptions for federal vehicles. Nobody is going to fine or prosecute any .gov agency for non compliance anyway. A lot of equipment was "tampered" with before EPA finally figured out what their final determination was.

As has been pointed out by a few members, the OP's '05 3V V-10 has cats, two of them in fact, he just didn't include pictures of them. They are just a few inches after the shorty header styled cast exhaust manifolds, one on each side. The cat back systems will replace the exhaust from the flange shown where the two cat outlet pipes meet and enter the single exhaust pipe under the truck.
