Front of engine oil leak

Hi everyone;

Was replacing my cracked and leaking charge air cooler pipe Friday evening and noticed oil all over the place at the lower front of the engine. It has been a few months since I've been under the truck. No drips on the ground so it must be a slow leak while driving. Oil level is fine so it hasn't been leaking for long.

Any ideas from this limited two picture view? Front main seal? I've been reading the vacuum pump leaks oil as well but I'm not sure where that is other than driven by the HPFP. I took additional pictures but those were useless, it's a bit cramped in this area.

In the past ten months I've had the turbo coolant inlet pipe leak repaired and then the DEF heater failed, which means replacing the entire pump of course. The wastegate solenoid air compressor noise started some time ago as well at shutdown but I haven't been concerned about that (it doesn't seem to cause an issue). 96,000 miles.

That would be the likely source of your oil leak. That pump is secured to the front cover via only four bolts torqued to 89 in-lbs. In my experience, it's always the bottom bolt that always loosens to where it can be removed by finger.

Which heater? There are two. The tank heater involves replacing the in tank sender. The line heater involves replacing the line. Neither, involves replacing the actual DEF pump, which sits atop the sender.

Replacing the wastegate control solenoid would resolve that concern.

Thank you for the information.

It was the tank heater, code P20BA. "Pinpoint test RH1-RH2, remove and replace reductant heater and sender assembly." I was told everything was one unit so I incorrectly assumed that included the pump.

I think m-chan is exactly right. My '11 leaked there and it was not too bad of a job to get to. I didn't even replace the gasket. I just tightened the bolts and it was all good.

All four were loose. The lower left bolt is a pain. I forgot to rotate this picture but you get the idea.
