Diablo Sport Chip?
Hi Ken,
I just bought a 99 F-250 PSD from my son who put a lot of mods on it. He said it has a "Diablo Sport 8 point adjustable Power Chip" which was installed late last year or earlier this year. I did a search at motorhaven.com and came up with only one "Sport" chip and that was for a gas engine. Is he mis-informed?
He installed the chip when he lifted the truck 12" and put it on 44s. Just before I bought the truck, the lift was taken out and now it has a 3" rear lift, stock front height on 35s. I am planning on going to smaller Cooper Discovery tires of about stock size. The truck has amazing power and responsivess, but from what I have decerned from this forum, maybe I should have the chip setting changed to match my driving requirements which includes no regular towing except for the occasional trip a couple of miles down to the lake with a 28' pontoon boat.
Thanks!

Diablo Sport Chip?
I do not even know where or what to look for, can you give me a hint? I just got the truck and have only had the hood open once. I have owned a 1985 6.9 F-350 crew cab and a 1993 7.3 non-turbo F-250 extended cab, and there is hardly anything I recognize under the hood of this PSD. I really liked my other diesels, but this is the first vehicle since I owned a Porsche when I was younger that makes me smile every time I fire her up!
Thanks for the info!

The chip is located in the cab. To get to it, remove the decorative plastic kick panel that surrounds the emergency brake pedal. Then, using a 13mm deep socket, remove the e-brake pedal itself. That will expose a hole in the wall. Slightly below this hole, and a little in front, is the PCM. The chip will be plugged in to this.
I hope this helps.

Ok, I finally had the time to check out what chip I have, and it is a DiabloSport chip. My son said it has to be taken back to the dealer to be reprogrammed, and he does it for free. Right now it is set at the highest setting because the truck had 44s on it, but now it is on 35s. I am thinking about having it retuned for economy, but I sure love the responsiveness and power. Can I get the same fuel economy if I drive it easily, or is there an automatic increase in fuel economy with the lower setting? Right now I have been getting 12 to 13 with the AC on all the time around town with lots of stop and go. I think I will get a Predator tuner for it in the future so I can tune it myself. Is there a limit to the number of times the chip can be reprogrammed?
Thank You!
