Factory tow package

Factory tow package
What's the quickest way to determine if a '96 F150 has a factory tow package or not? I was having issues with the trailer lights, so after some inspection, discovered that the P.O. of my truck liked splicing wires with only electrical tape. The wiring in the back half of the truck is a mess.
I want to bring it back to stock wiring (which in my case, I believe that it does not have factory tow package) and then retro-fit aftermarket plugs/pig tails, etc with much better and secure splicing of wires. So I'm going to have to go to a junkyard, and without spending too much time on each truck, find one with a wiring harness that matches mine and go from there.
FYI, my truck is a '96 F150 4X4 manual with a straight 6 engine. I assume it does not have factory tow package because the actual tow hitch that bolts onto the frame had to be modified in order to fit onto the truck by the P.O. Also, it appears hat the wiring to attach a 7-pin connector was done by an amateur, and that's putting it kindly.
