I believe both banks of cylinders are used now to try and prevent the jackhammering issue during regen. At least the update that came out in 2016 for the 2015+ motors; assumption is the 2017 motors use this same design. Part of the issue is that EGR is only pulled from the right hand cylinders. I guess that requires the EGR valve to be closed during a regen.
MisterScotty, sorry to hear your engine needed to be replaced and the run-around you went through. Glad it is being taken care of. It does sound like a faulty injector. My guess is they will only replace the failed injector. Each injector is printed with a "quality" code so that the new injector can be programmed "down" to match the quality of the other injectors.

UPDATE: Well, slow in posting an update. After a 1-day letter writing campaign to a few folks at Ford, I have a new motor, turbos etc. Only the one injector was replaced. 75K extended bumper to bumper warranty. More than I asked for. A little painful to get there but we did. I was shocked at how quickly the dealership had the truck back together. Kudos to Rush Truck Center in Denver for great customer service.
A few observations. I think the old motor got louder and louder. I am assuming the injector was bad out of the gate or went bad shortly after delivery. The new motor is much quieter than the old motor. Now I just want to get some break in miles on it before towing Labor Day weekend. It is weird being in a truck that you have had but having a new motor and driving it judiciously.
Kudos to Ford for taking care of me. I understand that sometimes things happen. First major issue I have had with a Ford ever.
