I know the new delo formula is no good? Or okay if I add archoil? So is it back to rotella or? Get in ready to do first oil change on this truck since it's revival (saved from crusher). I have a 5 gallon oil capacity so I need to choose carefully.

Sorry if this has been covered but searching oil threads is a nightmare.

Another ZF-6! Nice to have you brother. I personally use the Rotella T6 Synthetic from walmart! Got a picture of your rig?

If the new Delo ck-4 is no good then neither is the t6 ck-4 neither are on the list and they both now have less zinc and phosphorus from the old formulas. My local Walmart still had cj-4 delo about a week ago so you may want to check your local store. Here's ford list of approved oils.

Now with that being said ford doesn't care what oil you put in your truck that's not under warranty but if you want to buy motorcarft oil from now on I'm sure they wouldn't mind either especially their 5w40 that's some pricey stuff now that's not to say that the 6.0 couldn't experience the same or similar issues that they are concerned about with the 6.7 either.

Thanks. Yeah here's the before and after. It was a fun project got her beat to hell with 330k on the clock and have since replaced most everything from bumper to bumper including the bumpers! I had the zf6 in and out of the truck 4 times in one week. That was fun. My neck was sore after that. Oh yeah and hoisting the flywheel in and out (twice) was a real moment of joy too. But it runs pretty nice now. I have negative oil temp deltas and plenty of poop for the highway that's for sure.
I'm thinking maybe I should have my oil tested to see where it's at before a change. This oil zinc debacle has me thinking it might be worth the cost. (And the 5 gallon capacity!)

This truck is going to undergo a full transformation into overland adventure vehicle now with onboard furnace, galley, solar, sleeping, hot and cold water, kayaks, motorbikes, and flying equipment

Yeah Oil threads are really fun! Since it was "on the list", I got 4 cases of full syn Valvoline "Premium Blue Extreme" 5W-40 from NAPA when it was on sale for $19.95.

I will run it in everything I have except the Honda CRV & Chev Sonic (Mobil-1 0W-30) and my Franklin 6A-335B (AeroShell 15W50)

We typically have 4 complete aircrafts in the cab with us. 2 paragliders, a tandem paragliders and a mini speed wing. When conditions are not right for that we switch to kayaks or motorbikes.
The bridge is the famous St. John's bridge. The most beautiful bridge in the world. 1932. In Portland Oregon.

Why does a case of full syn for 20$ seem too good to be true?

Because it is... He was quoting the gallon jug price, but bought 4 cases of gallon jugs - should last for a bit....

Okay so here's a question, if the new standards don't have the zinc and whatever else we like in our oil, then doesn't the archoil additives replace that to the point that it doesn't even matter what ratings we have on the oil?

Don't know about VPB, but it depends -- seen 3 gallon cases of Delo at Costco and also 6 gallon cases, most of my Delo stash is in the 6 gallon cases...

Speaking of sales: quite pissed at Exxon/Mobil - bought 4 gallons of the Mobil Delvac 1 ESP when they had $12/gallon rebate. I submitted my rebate request twice, each time circling the 4 on the number of units and saying I was asking for 4 of the (limit of 5) rebates. I got back 2 $12 checks...

To Chevron and Shell's credit: their rebate systems provide more info., more ability to follow up, and neither has required any follow-up. Every rebate came through without a hitch...

The Delvac may be good oil, but screw the company that sells it...!

If it's on the Ford WSSM2C171F1 list ZDDP is high enough for them not to worry about the 6.7, and SAPS is the same for CJ-4 and CK-4? WSSM2C171F1 is focused on the 6.7L, where 5W-40 is the third oil on the list after 10W-30 and 15W-40, I guess it makes sense the 6/20 update has three pages of 10W-30 and 4.5 pages of 15W-40. The 5W-40 will come along.

I will let you guys know if my truck blows up with the CK-4 5W-40........All of the Motorcraft oil has brand new labels with their new specification listed on it. Good catch though, I had read about the new CK-4 switch and how Ford came out against it but didn't even think when I bought oil.
