NO. Too many differences. And where in the heck would you find a cable the correct length. Hydraulic much simpler.

You may can use the original 1964 style clutch linkage....If
The 85 Mustang bell housing is compatible with the old style mechanical linkage. It could be.
The 302 / 5.0 engine block should still have the pivot or a threaded hole for the Clutch pivot. The correct term for this part escapes me at the moment....Z bar pivot??

Look at the frame of your truck.....
Right above the steering gear is a ball looking pivot .This is the frame clutch linkage pivot I mentioned.....the block pivot looks the same.
Do you still have all the old 1964 clutch linkage?

To further confuse you...it is possible to use the 1957-60 hydro clutch.
The easiest in my opinion would be the original mechanical style linkage.

The the style clutch linkage you choose should be considered when mounting the engine. If you plan to use the mechanical linkage, engine placement is important so stuff lines up right.

Well, I'm fairly certain that if one has some basic fabrication skills, the cable could be made to work. And there are a number of aftermarket cables made for Fox body cars that are adjustable, which may make it easier.

And at around $100 & change, probably more affordable than a hydraulic setup, which will require even more fabrication skills.....

and I can't imagine the distance from the pedals to firewall, and firewall to bellhousing being so radically different that a cable couldn't be made to work....

Denis carpenter sells the tubular cross mount with the 302 perches for a tad over 100 bucks.
Just made a purchase from them on Sunday and saw it in the catalog. You may also find it online.

you would need either one but not both. They accomplish the same thing in different ways. Haven't used either one personally so hopefully some that has chimes in to share real experience.

You will need to find, modify, or fabricate a transmission mount crossmember. Should not be very difficult to modify an existing one to fit between the frame rails.

I would suggest that you purchase a Haynes repair manual for a 1985 Mustang and make it your bedside reader before you buy a bunch of parts. I believe that 85's used the TFI-IV ignition which means you will either have to convert to a Duraspark or use the computer with all the sensors. You can get it in there and make it run if you have a realistic plan and the skill and money. Good Luck young man! Post some pictures as you move along, we like pictures.

okay! Thank you for the advice! One last thing haha, So with some research I noticed how the T5 transmission was one pretty weak for this application and two I would have to do the S10 tail end swap so i have decided to save my money now.. The only thing is I don't know what manual trans will bolt up the most directly in replace of it, any ideas?

As long as you're not using the truck to haul or tow stuff the T5 will hold up OK. I would stay away from big sticky tires too.
