Just an observation...
We rented a '17 (I think) Mustang in Hawaii and tried to use Gmaps or Waze and could only get Waze to announce over stereo. No map interface at all.
Also Waze volume was tied to audio volume.
It had the Shaker system.

As far as I know Car Play doesn't support any 3rd party navigation apps, only Apple Maps.
