pertronix 1282 install

Sorry I haven't responded quickly. I will try the install with the distributor in the motor. I will also check to see if I have centrifugal and vacuum advance before I order the ignition. I will use the pertronix coil in my set up. Just quick question. The 12 volts going to the ignition is switched power source? And where is the resistor wire does this come off the key switch?
Thanks

Jerry,
If you use a Petronix Module you no longer need/use the ballast resistor. Remove it completely. Red to Switched power and the black wire goes to the coil. Their instructions are pretty clear.
In answer to your other question if you wire up the ballast resistor the "+" side of the resistor is to switched power, then the "-" side of the resistor goes to the "+" side of the distributor. Then a wire from the starter solenoid "I" also goes to the "+" side of the distributor providing a full 12v to the points during start up. 6v systems don't use a ballast resistor.

See Post #21, you don't need an external ballast resistor if you have the Pertronix coil with a built-in ballast.
I would assume your Pertronix came with wiring instructions? Follow them. If not, http://www.pertronix.com/support/man...itor12vneg.pdf

Well here is the rub on my Pertronix install. I took everything off cap, wires, rotor, points and condesnsor. I tried to match up my 1282 ignition the way the instruction states. But none of the holes line up on my distributor. Now I am positive I have a y block and its a 312. I go on the internet to research and find out that I may have a 1957 and up distributor. So this calls for a Pertronix 1281. Has anyone run into this problem? The truck is a 55 f100 with a 312 motor. I assumed it was a 55 312. Any ideas? Will return it to summit racing in a few days.
Thanks
