SEPARATING C6 FROM 460
Got the engine and trans pulled out yesterday as one and attempting to separate the trans from the engine and I seem to be having an issue. I
have all the bell housing bolts out, the trans pulled away about an 1" back and WILL not move from there. Motor is on a engine hoist, pretty level with trans sitting on a cart, both just off the floor.
I have pulled trans on other cars before, but it has been a looong time.
What am I not doing correctly?
Thanks,
Hammy

If the motor is not worth building, meaning a new crank, bearings and such, I will not rebuild this 460 or replace with short block. I really like the straight axle however, I am going to get me a Crown Vic PI and install front end, motor and OD trans. and call it a day..weeks, months,,year....

Did you get them separated? The flexplate first bolts to the engine using the 6 bolts in a circular pattern on the back of the crank - then once the tranny and engine are together the flexplate then bolts to the torque converter. You'd have to remove any bolts/nuts that attach the flexplate to the TC and if you don't the flexplate can snap if you try to force them apart. To get to them all you have to rotate the engine and remove one or two at a time, then rotate further.
Hope all is well.

Chad...Thanks so much for your reply and input! Yea I did. Should have said that on my last reply....Yea ya got to take them all out or else. Once I took the two bolts in the front out, the trans pulled right off, no issues.
And yep..Got the TC unbolted and the flex plate unbolted and removed.
I pulled the motor / trans out Saturday and well...by the time i got to pulling the trans, must have had a few to many lol..i was swearing at myself then said, hell with it, and grabbed another beer Woke up Sunday and there it was, two bolts looking at me...hehe..
Thanks,
Hammy

well It is your truck and there are plenty of reasons to go CV IFS. and an OD transmission is defiantly the way to go! I'm going to swap in an nv4500 5spd od or nv5600 6 spd od truck tranny..if I can afford the 6spd...they are pretty high right now...I'm probably just hard headed for wanting a y block with TFI and a truck od tranny
