Code for what? To enter where? Sounds like aftermarket? Pics might help (of where you need to enter any code for instance). I have nowhere to enter any code on my 2001 and removing the battery doesn't cause any issues.
PATS system components on the other hand may be coded/matched to the engine ECU as a security measure but that isn't a user-entry code if they don't match as far as I am aware.
