Aluminum Repair Thoughts

Just thought I would share my recent experience. I know when I bought my truck I was worried about the expense and expertise required to repair the Aluminum body if the need ever arose. Well I can say at ~6000 miles, I jacked-knifed my fifth wheel while squeezing into a spot with way too tight of a corner. Just about made me sick, I thought this was going to be an extremely costly repair and I was sure no one would get the cab back to factory specs. Working through Geico they recommended a Service King facility here in the Seattle area and I will say I am beyond impressed with their work. It did take a while, they had my baby for almost 3 weeks, but the finished product came out amazing. Even more impressive- total cost for the repair was only around $1400. They were able to repair the rear pillar to factory spec utilizing "per their tech" advanced Aluminum repair techniques that did not require them to cut out any parts or weld in new aluminum. I am beyond happy they were able to repair vs replace and I will be way more careful in the future. Anyway- here are the before and after pics.

Ouch!!!

Yay!!!

That is pretty impressive, if they did not replace any metal. Did they have to paint or do they have "advanced paint repair techniques" as well.........

Aluminum has been used as body panels since the 1940's

even Jeep had aluminum body jeep's in the 1960's..

paint to aluminum was the issue.. but today's primers are so much better.
