Just try it. I pull 12K, the rig in my signature, totally bone stock truck with 3.73 gears.

And that's all I'm going to say this time, you guys have fun with your incoming "gears debate", I'm done getting involved in those.
I agree.. Tow/Haul is not me.. don't like.. Manual shifting when encounting hills.

I haven't tried tow haul because somewhere I got the idea that it will downshift so hard you will look in your rearview mirror to see if your transmission is lying in the road. (I have no experience to say whether or not that is true.....)

tow haul... when going down hills... if you press on the brakes, the transmission downshifts 1 gear..

so if you press and release brakes several times going down a long hill.. it keeps downshifting till first gear.. so 30 mph could be in first...
but Computer will not allow engine to over rev...

but the going up hills it shifts down a bit earlier, then when going level..

It's not true, I use tow/haul a lot just daily driving. I like the aggressive style it gives, but still shifts smooth as butter.

I use tow/haul in heavy traffic when pulling skid steers. It helps slow the vehicle much faster than brakes alone. Once I'm out of traffic, I go into either D with 6 locked out or I go to manual mode.

I do the same thing when traveling 2 lane roads and slowing for small towns or in heavy traffic in larger areas when pulling our trailer, a lot of times if there is a lot of towns or heavy traffic I just leave it in TH.

So when you use manual mode, does anyone use cruise control at all?

Yes, I still used cruise. It's no different than owning a manual. You just have to listen to the engine and know when to downshift if you're pulling a load and climbing a grade.

What I like about manual mode and cruise is, the computer will wait until you have lost speed before it down shifts, a lot of times causing 2 downshifts. If your in manual, you can stay ahead of it and a lot of times, only 1 down shift is needed for the same grade. On the flip side, you can get back in your cruising gear quickly, where as with cruise the computer will hold that lower gear way to long in my opinion, especially if it goes even a slight down hill grade.

Exactly! When I'm pulling a skid steer and see an overpass coming, I'll downshift to 4 when in manual mode where in auto it waits to lose speed and drops to 3 to bring me back up to speed. It's a nice feature on the open road.

Have a 28' TT that I've been puling last couple wknds. Definitely sucks the fuel back at 39L/100kms
Ive been running it in T/H mode & I watch when approaching hills to drop a gear.
The guys running manual what RPM do you pick to switch gears at? Or is it all personal feel?

I go by ear but I have driven a few manual trucks. When pulling I can hear the engine RPM change and will downshift. If I see an incline coming a lot of times I'll just drop to 4 to keep the RPM's up so I don't have to drop into 3 like I have seen happen several times when pulling a skid loader.
If you're talking up shifts, I really do that by ear as well but it seems like I'm in the 3500-4000 RPM range when or so when pulling the few times I have paid attention. I'll be pulling a skid loader tomorrow and I'll try to pay attention to when I shift. In Tow Haul it seems like the shift strategy really likes to let the engine rev. when getting up to speed which really seems unnecessary to me.

to help for speed and miles per gallon

seeing a up coming hill.. I will speed up before hill... and allow truck to slowly slow down.. so at top of hill I am 5 under posted speed.

just remember your tire speed rating for trailers.
