Installed new tire/rim combo with different TPMS sensors, now light comes on

I recently installed takeoff 2017 factory 18" wheel/tire combo on my 2008 F250 to replace the 17" steelies. Didn't even know it had a TPMS system. Light never came on in 10 years of driving. After installing and airing up to 70psi, the TPMS warning light came on. Checked pressures, all good. I'm guessing that the new 18's have different sensors than the 2008 17's. 08 has the rim mounted green rectangular style. Don't know what the 2017's are as the tires were never taken off the rims. What do I have to do to get the new sensors to work? Thanks. Brian

Take it to a tire shop. They should have just about any equipment required to test the tpms valves (if they are even in your new tires) and reprogram them.

If you don't hsve the tpms valves in the new tires, the error message should go away after awhile. I don't have them in my tires anymore snd get the error messsge msybe once every few months or so.

Discount tire can do it for you, or you can purchase the tool to program the sensors to your truck yourself. It's very common for people to sell brand new factory takeoffs without the sensors. They use the factory sensors in their new aftermarket wheels to keep from buying new ones.

Thanks for the replies. Oops on me! I just re-read the ebay description and it says no sensors. I wonder if thats why they had 18 sets for sale. Will the computer give up after a while and stop putting up the warning light? I have the band type sensors from the 2008 17 inch steelies. I guess to use them on the 2017 18 inch rims I would need find bigger bands, but I would rather not go through the time and expense. Thanks. Brian

I don't have them in my tires. The tpms warning goes off every once and awhile; maybe once a month on average . Just press "ok" and that's it.

I'm not sure on an 08 model, but I know on 2011up you will deal with the warning every time you start the truck. Some tuners allow you to disable the TPMS now, or you can use forscan. I like the TPMS myself, but not at the factory level. I like to set mine where the sensors go off if I lose 15psi or so. I can check air pressure at oil changes and add a couple pounds, but if you run over something on the road, it's nice to know you have a tire going down before it gets to low and causes damage to the tire or bigger problems.

i have a 2011; no tpms sensors. Warning does not come on each time the truck is started.
