I don't know what make model but I'd guess by the shape it's an interior lamp from the "B" pillar from a 4 door sedan. I'd think the unit is upside down in the pic

Is that opaque plastic? like a lens? if so then I agree, must be some kind of interior light but I don't know from what

Looks similar to the 1949 or 1950 Ford Fordor (4 door) B pillar lamp bezel.
Flip the puppy over to see if there's any numbers marked on it.
Pontiac hood and decklid 'strato-streaks' were the brainchild of Pontiac division prez Semon E. Knudsen in the early 1930's.
His son, Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen removed them in 1958!
