Fuel issue: 88 F-150 300 I6

About 2 to 3 months ago, I replaced the fuel pump in my rear tank. The front one is rusted and has a major leak so I only use the back tank. The truck ran fine since replacing it and all of the sudden a couple days ago it stopped working. I was driving with no issues, then all of a sudden it began to sputter like it was running out of gas and eventually stalled. The tank has 3/4 of gas in it and it was just filled a week ago. I do hear the pump kick on so I know it's got power. I also replaced the fuel filter when I replaced the pump. Every time I start it, it runs for a few seconds, sputters and stalls again. What could be causing this lack of fuel?

Do you have a rats nest of fuel lines going to this weird octopus thing when you traces the fuel lines from the tanks? "It's Weird and Pissed off" I saw this ... thing... on various late '80's trucks and skipped using them for parts (went to '96 for my '78) and have also found various forums about it...

Sorry I don't have more, but I think your going to have to dig into that weird mess

Pull the codes and/or have the ECM tested...it might be going out.

I think he is talking about would be the duel tank switch vale assy. mounted on the inside frame rail kind of under the drivers seat.

The stock electric pump(s) will run for a few seconds when the key is first turned on to prime the system if it lost psi when off.
I have not gone oven the full post but there are electric pins you can jump out to see if the pump(s) are bad and it will run.
Also they should get power when running, I just don't know what they are.
Are you taking fuel psi readings and if so what is it?

I have not taken any fuel readings. The pump runs so its functioning properly. All I see under the driver side frame rail under the cab is the fuel filter but still no octopus piece.

Update: after sitting over a day, it started up and ran fine. Luckily it got me to work and back with no issues. Then it decided to do it again and stall so it appears to be an intermittent problem.

I don't think you need to worry about the pressure blow-off valve, if that is what is does.

Haha, pull a good vacuum overnight and see what happens after you got it all hooked up.
