Speed is the New Black

Did anybody catch the latest show on Velocity? They re-did a 55 F-250. Replaced cab corners, bed, and the usual stuff. It was obvious they were not real Ford gurus, however. The called it a 53 and were looking for a flathead under the hood. They shortened the truck to an F-100 size by putting it on a new frame and then found that they had to recess the firewall an inch. I don't know where they got the frame but that was probably their fault in locating the motor mounts too far back. I had plenty of room for a 302 in my 49 without recessing the firewall but I used the original frame.

and it was all done in 40 min. . 20 min. of commercials . That is why it is very hard to watch those type shows .
Carini had a one off custom car built for him from Moats in Ca. & it took about 30 min. Actually almost 9 months

True, but you have to admit watching 9 months of a build would get pretty boring.

Frame was quoted as being from TCI. So much of the 'drama' in those shows is staged that you really have to wonder if the engine mounts were really incorrect or if the owner just wanted a nice clean recessed firewall and the producer made the most of the situation.

I would think that with the number of frames that TCI has produced that they wouldn't mess up a small block Ford engine placement on such a common application. And why mess with the firewall when you can cut and relocate the engine mounts in far less time. My bet is it was staged.....

Guess I missed that. TCI does a good job on their stuff. Maybe you're right on the firewall. The did a great job on it anyway...

What made it hard when I first got my truck and was watching TV shows .There I was ,pencil and paper in hand, taking notes trying to learn how to do things , and it jumped from scribing for a cab corner to finished paint, and I learned NOTHING.. I think that's why I love seeing a well documented build thread, or just what someone did over the weekend, It never gets old to me. Top notch builder or somebody on there first build, I love seeing what you are doing.

If all they were going to use was the cab, why didn't they just buy a used cab instead of destroy a whole truck ? Changing from a F250 to a F100, the title would not have matched anyway. There were lots of parts wasted. My purest side was having a fit. There was no need to throw the front bumper across the shop. I remember the guy saying the factory hood fit better than the repro. I did like the custom door panels and interior.

I think throwing the bumper was just for show. I changed my 48 F-3 to an F-1 and it never made any difference in the title. I left the F-3 badges on the cab. Probably 99% of people can't tell the difference between an F-1 and F-3 or an F-100 and F-250 anyway.

That is why God created the DVR. Record it then fast forward through the commercials. It makes the show much more interesting.
