99 F350, 4x4, auto, DRW. Change gear ratio from 7:3 to 4:10 and have 5 star tow program for 87 or 91. Use 91 all the time. Tows my 12,500# 5R very well and I love the 415K miles of smooth engine performance

I am revisiting this topic currently. I didn’t find one last time I was looking and have had a little year with a F250 6.4. Truck runs great just payment more then I want so it’s hopefully sold next week.

In the market again for a nice V-10.

I’m in the market for a F-550 and finding a V10 is a near impossibility and when I do they sell fast. There are a plethora of 7.3 (old), 6 oh no’s, and the rest are out of my budget.

So the waiting game continues.

Same here. My truck will be leaving for the new owner Tuesday or Wednesday. Already looking around. Went to Autotrader and searched F250. 2,200 trucks. Hit v-10 and crew cab as filters I looked through all 3 trucks pretty quick. Everybody holds on to them. Found a super clean one but sold before I could get to it.

imagine trying to get a V10 E-series. That’s what I did a few years ago. I’m very anti-diesel, but I needed power to tow my enclosed trailer w/ race car. A half year of rather intense searching to find the one I bought.
Lots of beat up stuff, “just replaced engine” stuff, and insanely high mileage stuff.

Then i found my little gem: 2007 E350 V10 cargo van with only 113,000 miles, power windows/locks/mirrors, RKE, parking sensors, factory tow package, ...

and here we are 5 years later, with 325,000 miles and the ol’ beast has been napping in the same parking spot for three months with cylinder 5 half-full of coolant.

7.3 gears? Never heard of that. Did you mean 3:73?

That stinks. They are quite reliable for the work they normally do.

truth is; I often bragged on here about the lack of maintenance. Uncool.
It had the same coolant in it the whole 220,000 miles (5yrs) I owned it. And maybe the same coolant for the 113,000 miles (6yrs) before I owned it.

Im left wondering if the super-old coolant had some chemical changing and caused the head gasket to go bad or something.

I put a borescope in the spark plug hole and could see the coolant trickle down the cylinder wall on the side nearest the exhaust manifold.

IMO the fuel savings of the 7.3 over the V10 wouldn't be worth long term maintenance costs. Power is similar, the V10s run forever with very minimal maintenance. They do need proper oil level, as they get more upset about it than most engines.

I looked for about 4 months last year here in the PNW before finding an 06 F250 King Ranch. Price was a little higher but mileage was only 88k. Really love the truck. My brother has an 08 F350 XLT with maybe 40k miles. We both enjoy the truck and not the mileage. But, we didn't buy them for mileage. Good luck on the hunt.
