I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the power numbers and weight. The drivetrain is shared through all models and all years. And after the shaftdrive, the rear wheel number is more like 86hp. I'm no virgin to the vtx scene. At the time, the only thing Harley had that could think about out running a vtx1800 was a v-rod. Still don't think they have anything else that will outrun it(stock of course). And I posted the 150hp and weight statements before I realized you went back and edited your post to add a second bike.

Regardless, you have an awesome, beautiful bike and I will have another 1800 one day.

I'm just glad we derailed a thread debating 3.73's vs 4.30's, instead of a perfectly good thread getting derailed with a 3.73 vs 4.30 debate.

.030 over high compression, coated pistons. shaved heads.
aftermarket camshafts, no compression release lobe.
removed about 60 pounds from bike.
looking into the 2000cc kit for bike .. maybe this winter project.

I am OLD... 65 plus.. so typing is not a strong suit. wrenching is.
first bike I changed (my own).. IN 1972, a bike with 500 miles.. a 72 CB750, installed a 850 kit, Honda Works camshaft and rocker arms.. and a close ratio 5 speed gear set.
install several superchargers to 75-79 Goldwings for customers. ( it was a kit )
I was a mechanic at a Honda motorcycle dealership for years. Honda trained.. not a general school.
fyi, I am known to derail a thread...... like a 3 engine steam locomotive. aka train wreck
.

Over this past weekend I towed my travel trailer that I would estimate in the 7k lb range, along with 6 people and another 1k lbs in the bed up a canyon near me, overall I went from about 6500 to 9000 feet elevation in about 8 miles. The signs said it was a 6% grade, but it felt more than that at times. With 35.1" tires (295/65R20) and 3.73 gears, it did ok, but I was in 1st or 2nd the whole time, going from 25-40 mph.

The whole time I couldn't help but think about how nice it would be to have lower gears. When I got up to the top, and stopped and talked to my brother who was pulling a ~4k lb trailer with his 6.7, he seemed to think I did fine and wouldn't want to go much faster anyways.

In the end, I still do plan on regearing eventually (4.56s), but the urgency has decreased a bit. I can live with the performance I'm getting, and at least I can blame the tires if I want to.

Hey slowpoke slim, you remember when you called BS on me for advising someone they would probably be down to first gear in high elevations out west with an even heavier weight than this? Here's you yet another example. Thanks rspeters! I bet you wouldn't care if the 3.73's are actually quicker to 60, I bet you would rather have that extra torque.

I went into the white mountains last week with a 9k travel trailer and 1000lbs in my bed. On some very steep passes it would hit 2 and even 1st gear a couple of times. Main thing is my truck is problem free unlike the pos 6.0 I had.

Remember, the speedo is 5% slow, so 57mph is 60.

Now, let's see what your stock 3.73's do.

These are all quicker than yours.

But regardless if they are regular cabs, crew cabs, ext. cabs, long bed or short bed, throw some 85lbs tires on them, and see how they do then. I have never said my truck is fast, but for 37's on a 3/4 ton GAS truck, it runs pretty good. Tell you what, first chance I get, I'll record dads 4.30 regular cab on stock 17" tires.

I never said your truck was slow. I get around 8 seconds 0 to 60 with my truck with a stop watch. I cant wait to see the 4.30's 0 to 60 times. Put a tuner on your truck and you might knock a second off your 0 to 60.

I really want to tune my truck, but I'm honestly scared of engine and transmission warranty denials. I've been looking at PedalMax, which is a joint venture with JMS tuning and Roush. It plugs into your pedal connector and eliminates that pesky throttle delay with throttle by wire. Nothing to download into your computer, and doesn't effect warranty. Maybe that will keep me happy until I hit 60k miles.

I haven't heard of PedalMax, definitely going to check it out. Sounds like something I would be very interested in!

PedalMAX for Ford, GM, Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep Vehicles

I never heard of this either. Wonder how it compares to a 5star tune? Won't void warranty either. Well someones got to try it!

I kinda feel bad. Someone on here asked about it a while back. I thought it was something else and gave some uninformed advise against it. I don't know how good it works, but it is certainly reputable.
