'16 vs '17 F250

I have been planning for months to order a 2017 F250 CCSB Lariat 4x4. Been planning to order in July (next few weeks).

I have the opportunity to buy now a very low mileage 2016 F250 CCSB Lariat 4x4. I estimate that I will come out $2-5K less. Not a huge savings.

I'm asking for comments here hoping the biased 2017 guys don't slam this. I know what most of them think.

I want to see if anyone has any comments that I have not considered.

-- I know the difference in the transmission. 2016 is equal to what remains in the current 2017 F350.

-- I know a slightly heavier 2016 with metal vs aluminum in 2017.

-- 2017 does have new Sync3, ultimate camera a few options not found in 2016.

But....... are there any differentiating factors you know that I have not thought about??

Thanks for any comments/opinions ..... even alternative facts!!!!

I know little about ether one. but I have a 2012.

does the used one have complete records..? and what was it used for.?

for less then $5K.. I would get the New one.
but I keep things a very long time.. so use matters to me.
last truck for 11 years... and car before that 19 years. both daily drivers.

I like the old body style personally. Plus I would rather have the last of a generation than the the first. I love my '16.

I would go for the '17 also. Especially since it's so little more. I'm kinda like Chuck's...I tend to keep them longer, especially when their new. I bought my '11 new, and it's still hanging tough, though with fewer miles than I put on it when I first got it.

You are always..in most cases better off with the last run before a design change. There isnt anything about the 17 models that would be any better than the 16...maybe a couple comfort items.
But...That price seems off for only $2k difference.

Thanks for the comments!!

I've had my current F150 since October 2007. It's an '06 and had about 22k Miles at purchase... now 186k. What ever I purchase I plan to drive at least 10 years.

on the 2016.... Records?? It has 8900 Miles. So it's had maybe 1 or 2 oil changes, that's it. Not to worried about records here. It is on a Ford dealer lot.

I passed on buying a 2016 in the fall to wait on some late year incentives / discounts on a 2017.

At this point ..... Before I order..... I just want to consider if there's any good reason to stay with a heavy metal '16 instead of going with the '17. By all accounts, from my reading, 2017 is a better riding / driving option wih a transmission better designed for the 6.2L .... which now has slightly better HP and torque specs.

From my reading the biggest issue with '17 is the body. Easier to ding and some are reporting paint issues (easily scratches, chips, etc). This does not appear to be a wide spread issue at this point but that could change. The Al F150 has been out a couple of years now and I have not heard the same on the F150.

Thanks again!!

I assume you are looking at a 6.2 gas because of your transmission comment. The 6.2 got a significant(I believe 30ft lbs) jump in torque, and at a lower RPM. At this point, I wouldn't say the new transmission is better, or worse. The 6r140 is extremely well proven in the '16.

I'm not a tech guy, I love my XL, so that stuff doesn't matter to me. The motor changes would pull me to the '17, but standing in front of the two, it would be a hard choice if they can get the price right, because I much prefer the looks of the 11-16 over the '17.

I would go and try out the 16 with the options it has and give it a good run and see how you like it, then I would test drive a 17 with option as close as your thinking you would like if you ordered one and take it and give it a good run and see how you like it.

Then I would go home have a cold one and write down the pros and cons of each truck including the price you could buy each at and then look it over after you have the pros and cons and think about what you believe is the best for YOU and what your looking to have either truck do for you whether it is towing , highway driving, work etc and go from there

The cab on the 17 is larger on the inside than 16.
To me the seats in the 17 don't sit as well.
The new bodies have more wind noise than previous gen.
The Sync 3 is a nice upgrade, but that can be added to the 16.
The 17 is stupid tall.

I would never buy the first model year of anything. EVER. As it is now, I feel for the guys with 1999 rigs with all the wired littite things they changed in 2000. Would much rather have the 2016 with 17 years of lessons learned built into it.

This is the one thing that I don't really think I can ever get over. I would easily have accepted a non-flat rear floor in the crew cab in exchange for not having a truck look like its got a lift kit installed when its bone stock. Lifted trucks look goofy with small tires, and you can see this in the low-trim level 17s equipped with the smallest 275-65-18 tire option.

To the '17s credit, they have great positives in the chassis improvements and ride quality. But I'm just not a fan of the way the F150 cab was integrated into the Super Duty package.

Definitely would go for the 17 with the 16 your getting the platform from an 18 year old truck. Based on that alone I'd do the 2017. Also drive both the 17 really does drive very nice.

Thanks again for all the comments!!! Opinions appear to be split about 50/50 which is where I have been.

I like the part about a cold one. I think that's the best advice.

Every day there will be plenty for sale and plenty that want to sell them to you. No need to get in a rush!!
