I have a friend named, "Fast Eddie" and he knows all about springs and such. He said if you install air shocks upside down it will pull the car down when air is applied. I have not tried this but heard it from an expert.

what part don't you understand?

This aint facebook.

yes, new springs would be better, but for that matter so would a new van or even a kenworth based chassis but that was not the question posed.

reading this thread you insulted more than one person while asserting you were right, but Im just not seeing evidence of the know how to justify such a non-pleasant demeanor - and that is not to say that being an expert justifies one to act the tool.

(and while we are playing Mr Engineer, please realize that even air bags at much larger loads cause a frame deflection at generally an unsupported area and is also not desirable, at of course vastly increased loads.)

ps: no one asked you to weigh any vehicles, people or deli meats. you were asked to consider the concept being addressed.

There must be something about an air shock that I'm missing. I've looked for cutaway views showing the construction and position of the air bladder but haven't found one. My question is, how does the air shock provide any lift without collapsing the shock? I think that explains the horrid hard ride, sorta like a "hardtail" motorcycle. Back in the 70's I used air shocks to provide a little rake (15-20lbs air) on my Galaxie but I could tell when I'd ridden over a wet cigarette butt.

Are they making the new shocks differently?

it extends not collapses the shock
it's basically an airbag that surrounds the shock
