High Coolant and Oil Temps- Oil Cooler, Water pump?
#16
Since it's record breaking heat today I figured what better day to work on the truck. I have had restore in it for about 2 hours, just got back from a drive with distilled water and restore. No thermostat. I got it hot and hot the freeway, ECT 202 and EOT 215 per Ford's test procedure.
As I sit in my driveway after it now I have ECT 196 and EOT 207 after a couple minutes of idle. Still no thermostat.
Am I just wishing and hoping that the oil cooler is not bad? Is this crazy and I should just put it in? I already have one in hand.

I am letting it cool down a bit more before I put in the Restore+ and then will flush that out later on tonight. I think I will start the tear down tomorrow. I like to gamble but I dont want to gamble with it not making it through the family vacation next month so its getting an oil cooler and ill also see if its got a bulletproof EGR too.

Here in Las Vegas when I drive home in the afternoons when it's hot out the ECT will be around 208 to 210 and EOT will hit 215 cruising the freeway at 70 to 75 mph. I figured that's normal for those ambient temps.. lol. It cools pretty fast once I hit the surface streets.
I am currently down to the oil cooler. Intake and up is out. I have some sort of aftermarket EGR.... But who knows what kind. It has no markings of course. It has tubes through it so that's something. I am going to swing by bulletproof diesel tomorrow to see if they can identify it as thiers so I can have some piece of mind. Hate to do this twice.
So far fairly straightforward. I am missing the little white collar on the IPC connector, and the clips on the turbo solenoid are both broken. Not bad for an AZ truck, we normally see a lot of stuff cracked/rotted. Atleast no rust.....

What year of a truck is it and what configuration is it, cc,sc,rc, long box, short box???
Just curious.
I don't believe you see a lot of water pump issues with the 05 and later models, they have the bigger pump I believe.
One thing I've noticed on our 05 is when you come of the highway and the cooling system's are working properly, it doesn't take to long and the coolant and oil seem to cold down relatively quick, in my experience anyway.
Just curious.

I am hoping that the oil cooler is the key.
