Prop Rod for Tilt Hood

For those running a tilt hood, how well does the rod fit in the hood receiving block? The other day I had the truck outside with the hood open. A slight breeze back and forth on the hood caused the prop rod to work its way out of the block. The hood then hit the (newly chromed) grill. I want to prevent this from happening again. I've double checked installation instructions I saw online and it seems to be installed correctly. If anything the block may be mounted a little low on the hood (it was previously installed). Thanks!

I have the No Limit Tilt kit and the prop rod end is threaded so you can install a wing nut to secure it open if needed. But the way it is mounted has enough spring tension on the rod to hold it in place.

The Classic Performance Products prob rod is not threaded so the wing nut wouldn't work.

If it's the same as the one pictured above there is no reason the end couldn't be threaded , or maybe drill a small hole through it so a split pin or similar could be fitted for safety when open .

I drilled a hole through the round housing and the pivot bar on either side of the truck, and put one of these in on either side to prevent that, didn't use the prop rod....Sorry, don't have a picture. If you don't understand my explanation ( I know it sucks) I'll take a picture for you.

Except that the rod is not long enough to pass through to the other side of the block. Although you did give me an idea - Perhaps I could drill and tap the block with a set screw to help hold it in place. Just not sure if the set screw would vibrate out if I left it in all the time.

Hmmm... Once again, giving a different solution to ponder! I wonder if this could be done with the hood on. I think I know what you are saying. It would go through this bracket and rod that pivots. Do you know what size (diameter) pin you used?

Picture borrowed from 53Lakeside. Brought up another question. I don't have that hood seal that is pictured. Is it necessary?

Yup, I think you got the idea.....I drilled the hole with the hood on. I did find that the pivot rod would move back and forth inside the housing, which would make it difficult to line up the hole though, and the hood gaps wouldn't stay where they were supposed to. Not sure if yours moves too, but I ended up drilling and tapping a hole in the end of either housing, and threading a bolt in with a washer on the end, that butted up against the pivot rod so I could adjust the hood side to side, minimize the movement, and ensure the holes lined up every time it was opened. The pin is 1/4" or 5/16", and I just throw them in the glove box, so I have them handy. As for the hood seal, I don't have it either. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Would be neat to use an airplane steering bypass pin. Any pilots on this board?!
