I ordered a magnium bumper for my 2001 Excursion, I'm super happy with it!! I have one question on install, under the radiator there is a skid bar, does this stay on? Or is it supposed to be removed?
I removed mine. It is/was a federally mandated item back when the Excursions were built, and you will find them on the Super Duty trucks as well. It is called a "blocker beam". Supposed to keep cars from "going underneath you" in a collision.
What Nicmike said. I removed mine as well. Any vehicle dumb enough to get under my rig deserves to be there. If you drive a lowered Miata it's not my fault
This may be a ridiculous question, I am not sure so my flame suit is at hand lol But is that a safe jacking point? I could have swore I have seen people jack from there and use stands on that point for the means of installing lifts. Just curious.
I would say it is too high to jack from, but I have used blocker beams to hold up Super Duties with jack stands while working under them. Very stable from my experience.
X3
I back up on to my heavy duty ramps, engage parking brake.
Then, use my high lift floor jack in the center of the blocker beam. My 6 ton jack stands fit on either side of the jack. I lower the front on to the stands, but leave some weight on the jack as more insurance, then remove both wheels and have lots of room to work underneath.
Only thing I would ever be worried about is if someone smart enough to know something about it saw that it was missing after you had an accident where the other party was hurt - lawsuit would be a slam dunk.

A legit concern....but, in 19 years of working LOTS (in the 1000s) of crashes I have not yet seen the issue arise. That is not to say it couldn't...
