My '76 F-100 Longbed Farm Truck Project

Picked up an Old 76 F-100 Longbed Farm Truck for free the other day. She's a little rusty and neglected (literally came from a farm where it sat in a field without being touched for the past 5 years), but still mostly solid aside from the usual places. Its supposed to have a fully rebuilt 351M in it with only 15K miles on it according to the guy, and after some TLC I got it to fire up and run like a champ. It sounds great with the exhaust setup it has (longtubes going into dual flowmaster exhaust).

Aside from the headlights, almost nothing electrical on the truck works though, the motor wont even stop from the key, you gotta pull the coil wire. So far Ive, had it flatbed towed back home 45 miles ($120) Replaced the rotten fuel feed line that was spraying gas on the header ($2), Bought a new battery ($115), and replaced the 2 rotten front tires with some cheap ones I had laying around ($40 for mounting/balencing). Shes a little rough, and there isnt a straight dentless panel on the truck, but hopefully you guys here can help me locate some of the body parts that I wont be able to straighten back out myself. (Im a bodyman) Enough chatter, on with the pics!

Anyone know how to verify this motors cubes and model for sure? Guy said it was a fully rebuilt 351M...Doesn't look factory.., has long tube headers, and an edelbrock performer intake and carb, amongst other things. Runs very strong and smooth whatever it is.

Interior isnt too bad. Classic Rusty Floorboards though. Door bottoms are still mostly good.

Plans are to restore it to driver quality, and use it to haul *** and stuff. Nothing fancy. Will be replacing my old 95 F-150 there. Love this old beast already though.

Welcome to FTE! Lots of good people here, and often willing to help.

The body doesn't look that bad to me. Maybe a fender and bumper, but the rest is definitely fixable. Floor pans from Tabco.

Price is definitely right!

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses for you

Welcome to FTE, I recommend joining your state chapter to get with your fellow NC members. Great way to locate parts and a possible hand with your project.

Thanks guys, for the info and welcomes. I tried to join the NC Chapter a few days ago when I joined the site, but I guess the mod didn't approve me for some reason. She's definitely a solid rig, worthy of restoration. I'm gonna start with the electricals since almost nothing works. I'm ready to rewire everything with fresh wiring if I have to, since these trucks seem pretty dead simple with their wiring.

After that I'll be moving on to everything mechanical. Once she's in tip top running and driving shape, then I'll start on the rust and cosmetics. Also have to get her titled, as the title is long gone. Luckily NCDMV has a pretty easy process for that. I love restoring old vehicles at home, so I think it's gonna be a fun project for me, and a great rig once she's done.

I Will keep the thread updated as I progress, hopefully I can inspire some others out there to drag there old farm truck outta the field and bring her back to her glory days as well

What's the easy process for getting a NC title? I was told at the Walnut Cove DMV, that I would have to go back to the original owner and he would have to request a new title. 1986 Ford Squire Wagon I have a bunch of papers, just not the title. Supposedly the place I bought it from went out of business the year before I bought the car......

Unless the engine is a 302, it has been swapped.

351M & 400 (8 valve cover bolts per side) not available in F100/350's until 1977.

351W not available in F150/350 & Bronco until 1981, not available in any year F100.

1976 F100 2WD could have a 300 I-6, 302 2V, 360 2V, 390 2V or 4V or a 460 4V

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code, post what it is.

Front bumper same: 1967/77 F100/350, 1978 F100/350 before serial number AG0,001.

Tailgate same: 1973/79 F100/350. Front fenders and doors same: 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco.

Grille frame same: 1973/77 F100/350. R/L grille plastic inserts same: 1976/77 F100/350, but there are color variations between 1976 & 1977.

Upper body side mouldings with black vinyl insert same: 1973/76 F100/350 Ranger XLT

Upper front fender, door and cab corner mouldings with black vinyl inserts also the same as: 1977/79 F100/350 Ranger XLT & 1978/79 Lariat with Race Track mouldings.

Right quarter panel (bedside) same: 1973/79 F100/350. Left quarter panel with exposed fuel cap(s) same: 1973/76 F100/350. 1977/79's have fuel doors.

I'm sure it's different in some counties, also keep in mind they don't wanna help you...you gotta figure it out yourself somewhat, but here... You gotta go to the DMV title office and get all the paperwork to file for a lost title. After you fill out all that, you buy what's called an indemnity bond from an insurance provider. Runs about $150. Once you have that, you make an appointment at the DMV title office for a state trooper to inspect your vehicle to make sure it's not stolen, once he does and signs off on your paperwork, you take all the that back to the main DMV title office, and once they file that with the state, they will send you your title in the mail in 2-4 weeks. I've done it many times. It's a hassle but it works.

You beat me to it Bruce. I also think that color combo is pretty sweet. Good luck with the build OP & thanks for saving a cool old Dent from the field.

Thanks again guys. She's a solid rig. Definitely worth saving. Probably gonna keep the current color scheme as well. I need new front clip body parts now, starting the search soon. I will update here as I progress!
