You can build your own DIY box around the 6637 to quiet things down. I did that years ago. Works well. The drone on the 6637 drove me crazy so I built a box. There are a few threads out there about this.

This is the best deal on the 6637 kit which will handle just about any set of "street" injectors that you could choose:

Riffraff Diesel 6637 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke Intake Filter Kit

Or, if you can spend a little more money, 3+x more, the S&B will be hard to outgrow too. As many have mentioned, it is much quieter. I have one now and will purchase another for my new addition soon.

S&B 7.3L Powerstroke Cold Air Intake Kit - Dry - New Design - Riffraff Diesel Performance

The filter wrap which is sold separately and is crazy expensive for what it is will double your filter life.

The download links for the templates are on page 5 of that thread. I tried to design it so anyone could replicate it with some sheet metal, a pair of pliers, a drill and some pop rivets.

The box is still installed and still working almost 10 years later.

It is completely subjective. My hearing is pretty good, and my driving takes me into the mountains where there is a long hard push of deep boost (particulary when towing) - so my situation would be a worst-case scenario with a 6637. A grocery-gitter in Kansas driven by somebody with diminished hi-frequency hearing would be a good candidate for a 6637.

True, I don't drive my truck much at all. Weekend quick trips down to my brother in laws garage, maybe Walmart on occasions. We usually drive my wife's '15 Impala. But... Ive had my stock airbox on for a while now and just went back to a 6637(my stock airbox has all the tabs intact and I would always seal it with a thick grease). Anyway though I don't drive it much we do tow a '38 11,000 lb travel trailer so I guess I'll see soon enough.

I drive my work truck on a daily basis towing, hauling, going up 8%+grades and the noise can be controlled by just turning up the radio, it is loud thou, I can't imagine if I add a tuner, it would sound 3X louder which is good in my book lol.... if you like turbo whistle the 6637 is for you.

I also had to take my Dremel to some of the box to make the filter fit low enough for the hood to shut.

I have the 6637 too. I thought I screwed something up the first time I drove after install. It is loud, but I don't mind. The filter plus 4in. Turbo-back makes the turbo whistle very prominent. 2 people have thought my truck was a 6.0 since upgrading.
