power steering in a 1950 F-47??
Hi,
I will be starting the resto on my 1950 Ford F-47 soon. I would like my wife to be able to comfortably drive it and I think power steering would greatly help.
I will be using 3 inch drop leaf springs with the factory axle. Not that it will make a difference but I will be doing a power front disc brake conversion on it.
Is there a way to have power steering on this truck and how would I do it?
Thanks in advance.
Larry

I'm assuming that you have the original flathead V8 Larry? You should be aware that there is a lot of bad information out there from normally reliable sources. Are you going to go with standard tires? Have you chosen a steering box? Many of us have used a Toyota 4x4 box from the early 1980s. CPP makes a mounting kit. I think that they also have a non-Toyota box (GM?) and mount but it is pricey.
If you are going to use standard size tires then an Eaton pump should work. I have CAD drawings for the brackets. The older Eatons are lower pressure (650 psi) but it looks like there may be an 1100 psi but I have not confirmed. The Toyota box needs 1100-1400 psi but I have run mine on 650 psi but then I have wide 60 series radial tires so the power assist is not as good as it should be.
1955 T-Bird pump
There is a new Unisteer pump kit that I just bought but it does not fit without some modification. Watch this link for details as I am working to make it fit:

Ok, good information. thank you!
I will be using somewhat standard tires, radial of course and maybe just a touch wider but nothing crazy. I'm told the engine runs good but i have not started it yet. If it runs as good as I'm told I will be keeping it but going with finned heads and multi carbs with headers.
what are you using for a pitman arm?
Thanks again and I'll be following.....

Note that I revised this post (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post17275058) and changed to a wider belt BX59 instead of AX60.
