Weird turbo noise, please help!
#16
So the total cost was $1248 on the receipt. The good news is I have a brand new driver side turbo....the bad news is it didn't fix the problem......the noise is still present.
I have heard this before the turbo was replaced too but when I got out of the truck I heard what seemed like a wheel/bearing spinning down. It was a faint sound but was there still. Reminded me a bad bearing sound but apparently it was not in the turbo. It was quiet and stopped before I could get the hood opened.
Maybe next week will bring better luck.

Hopefully final update, a new tech got their hands on it and found the exhaust manifold warped (don't know if this means the gasket or the actual exhaust manifold right now). Hopefully this fully fixes the noise issue and I will be able to enjoy this truck more! They gave me a loaner 2017 f150 xlt minimum optioned truck and I really do miss the options on my 14 limited.

Got the truck back the other day. No more noise! It was a warped exhaust manifold gasket. The first cost was $1250 to replace the turbo. The second (total cost of everything including turbo) was $1780 which makes replacing the gasket a $530 repair.
So far the truck seems to have regained quite a bit of power. It always seemed to have a hesitation from a stop but I just contributed that to turbo lag. Now it doesn't have this anymore and seems to have regained power! When I would power brake before to get it to make the sound the tires wouldn't spin, now when I do it to make sure no squealing the tires start to spin. That was unexpected but greatly welcomed! This all makes sense if the exhaust was leaking then it wasn't getting to the turbo and then the turbo wasn't able to spool as efficiently as it should.
