Question Installing the rear axle seals. Is it possible without the specialty tool?

Hey guys.

I had to replace the seals on the rear end of my 05 e-250. I took half axles out and then pried the old seals out. Got a new seals but then I am wondering if it is possible to install them without a special tool that I see in manuals and videos. I don't want to damage the seals by just tapping them with a hammer but I also can't spend $90 on a seal installer tool. Is there a trick or work around to install them properly? Maybe use a piece of board or something else and tap it that way?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you

YES. You just answer the question. Place the seal as flat and centered as posible and tap with a hammer against a flat board. Small taps circling around.

Yea you can tap it in without a tool. Just make sure you use something that won't damage it and install it the same way the old one was in. and be sure to seat it fully. You can borrow tools from the big chain parts stores for free. You'll have to pay a fee to rent them, but when you return the tool, you get that refunded.

The end of a pice of 2x4 or a wooden handled hammer turned backwards would work.
