Originally, went with a 5-star tune - 87 octane tune dropped the 0-60 from around 10 seconds to around 9. Mostly from the improved shifting.

Then, ebay headers (helped high RPMs a bit) and then a y-pipe which helped low-end throttle response a LOT.

Then, when the ebay header on the passenger side cracked, I replaced them with Hedmans (don't do it, get Banks or Thorleys) - and got a bit more high-end and some general all-around better torque. But all by butt-dyno

Somewhere in there, I put a Volant CAI on it - which is actually a CAI - not just an open element exposed to engine air. Got a little bit MORE throttle response out of it.

At this point, it's nothing like the original stock engine in terms of drivability.

No gears - yet. Not sure what I'm going to do at this point, either keep it for the rest of my life, or get out from under before it costs me

Thank you for the response, was very interesting and VERY helpful. good input have the headers and ypipe separated out... being on a low budget I am likely going to have to do it that way too... tuner and exhaust then save for gears seems to be the plan.

Thanks a bunch!!

I just put headers on last night. I broke most of the exhaust bolts, either going to buy new heads or take it to a machine shop to get them pulled. What am i supposed to do with the EGR. Even if i get the blocking plate for it. Some forums said that wont work for a 1999 and also I need the program for it as well. I have a superchip programmer but idk where to get the program.
