By the way, was the engine warm or cold?

Engine was warm but not hot. I waited about a half hour after driving to drain. Next time I want to drain with the oil HOT as that will move faster and drag whatever it can out with it.

LOL. I promise. I usually just cause people to involuntarily spend their upgrade budgets. You know, when one jumps, everyone follows...

Was the filter on or off the engine during the draining?

The filter was still on when the oil was drained. The oil cap was off and the dip stick was partly pulled out though.

Now if only Ford would ditch the silly spin on oil filter and use a top-side cartridge. Nobody would spill a drop of oil ever again.

I use the ez drain on my 2013. I usually attach a hose to it so I can move the drain pan under the oil filter and do that at the same time.

I use a 1 gallon milk container that I cut the top off and left the handle intact. As you loosen the filter and it starts to drain into the pan I will put that container under it and spin it off.

Then to kill time I drain the fuel/water separator and do all my underside inspections.

if you think you're getting a complete/bone dry drain (via removal of the conventional drain plug) you're fooling yourself. The 6.0L had .9 quarts that remained in a reservoir for the HPOP and that remaining quart never had any impact on the engine or wear.

you'll always have oil left in a motor after any change.

I can tell you thru YEARS of sampling - if any oil is left in the system after an oil change its does little to impact the engine and wear.
