Greetings and welcome. There is picture posted by gdub of the upper and lower rods and the center mechanism they attach to. You can access his picture by clicking on my name and going to my profile page. From there, click on statistics and find the thread entitled, Latch Mechanism...". The date you are looking for is 2-17-16. There should be a way for me to lift this pic out of this thread and post it for you, but I don't know how.
Here is how the mechanism looks installed. You can see a little of the center and the upper rod. The lower rod is offset so it can't be seen. In the thread I referred you to, there is a picture of the lower rod as it looks at the bottom of the door.
