My wife has been looking for truck for quite sometime and came across this which she bought today. 1970 F100 / 302 / 3 speed on the column. She had been looking for a 6 banger with the 3 OTC but could not pass this one up. Very small rust spot on the pass door and the battery tray is just about gone. Was originally bought in north Florid and then sold to Macon, GA in 94 which remained in that family until 3 months ago. Has been sitting since 2008 and fired right up and runs very nice. Looking like 113K on it might be real, still needs a bit of love. Very straight body, has not been altered in anyway, still has the factory radio delete in dash. Picking it up tomorrow and will post up more pic's after that.

The 6 cyl seems a popular choice but I'm very happy with my little V8, sounds great with glasspacks.

I'll 2nd Jon's reply. From what I can see, looks like you have a good foundation to start with there.

 

She wants to keep it a driver, her only wish list is A/C. Wants to keep it as stock as possible. Been though the whole street rod stuff, and doing a restomod on her 51 Olds 98 4-door. This is her work truck.... It's really the only one that we have found that does not have a huge case of cancer, trucks just keep going up and up. This was at the top of her buy limit of 4K after a bit of haggling.

Nice! Make sure that tank is clean, don't be like me in my 69 where I put additive in the take and it loosened a bunch of crud in to the system, having to have the whole thing drained lol

 

My wife just got back today from a 10 day trip and got to see her purchase for the first time and was quite pleased. The tank had been removed and drained from the seller in GA, and I added 5 gal of boat gas to it to see how everything was running. Running a bit rough yesterday after a heavy pressure wash, coolant flush and oil change. Today did a full tune up and running fantastic, just reach in the door and hit the key and fires right up. Bad news, oil drain plug had been stripped out at some point and had to install a over size plug which is doing well.
Pass side exhaust manifold has a small crack which I used some Quiksteel on which seems to be doing well before I remove an exhaust manifold which is 41 years old. Seems like the upper tank of the radiator has a leak so will will remove that and have it repaired or recored. Plus side the brakes are great as is all the electrical, so still good buy for an old trunk that has been sitting.
She is going to take it for a quick drive before we pull the radiator tomorrow, loves the red popping from the turquoise paint underneath. I'm not a fan but she talking about clear coating as is. Will post some better pics tomorrow.

 

I've owned several 240s and 300s, love them but the reality is, the 302 has way more beans and gets just as good or better fuel mileage in most cases. And you get to listen to a V8, not a pukey sounding six banger.

 

Yea, we are both quite happy that it has a 302 in it. They are sweet little small blocks.

 

I would be very cautious of brakes that have been sitting up and then start seeing use again. This is when they like to fail on you.

 

I always go through the brakes completely on a new-to-me ride. Simply safety and cheap insurance. Awesome looking truck, btw. Nice find.

 

Yea, that is next on the list is to inspect brakes and hoses and do a complete flush of the system. Will do that while the radiator is out being reworked.

 

Wheel cylinders and/or the MC are usually the items that fail but, it would be good to go through the whole brake system.

 

Couple new photos and doing a complete brake refurbishment this weekend. Took on a quick road trip and it ran very well. Just finished a completed a cooling system rework, radiator rework, new hoses , etc. full tune up. Have new seat cover coming and windshield and rear window rubber and a few other bit's coming next week and she should be road worthy for sure. Plus installing a replacement pass side exhaust manifold which a forum member sent out today.
