2001 F250, need a nicer steering wheel

Just wondering how new of a steering wheel will fit on my truck and what other models might offer a wheel that bolts up. I have an XL so I don't need cruise or radio controls, etc. I would just like a nicer wheel.

I put a black leather wheel in mine I have no idea what it came out of but mines an xlt so it just had the black rubber or vinyl or what whatever it was wheel I'm sure it's the same one you have but it did have the cruise control buttons 97-03 f-150 and expidition should fit and 99-07 super duty and 00-05 excursion maybe some others but I don't know about what those are off the top of my head. I just reused my airbag and cruise buttons and put them in the leather wheel. I would think you could do the same with yours just minus the buttons. What did they put where the cruise control buttons would be on yours.

There isn't anything there on the xl. Just the steering wheel and then the airbag/horn assembly.

Thanks for the picture Josh. From your picture the wheels that have the cruise buttons are shaped different for the buttons. I guess you could get a wheel with the buttons and just not hook them up but I don't figure you want to do that, you could have your wheel wrapped with leather at an upholstery shop I don't know what else you could do besides one of those chincy walmart covers.

On my dad's 2000 lariat when the leather wore off we searched around and found a guy online who takes factory steering wheels recovers them or adds fake wood grain plus new leather. Was well cheaper in price compared to a new one from ford

I saw somewhere that you can swap on a Lincoln Navigator wheel from early 2000s to add the cruise buttons as well as radio controls.

The leather would be nice but I was thinking of a nicer looking wheel altogether, maybe from a Lincoln or a Flex, or a 500 but would still bolt on. Not even too worried about the air bag working or not.

a wheel from a 05-08 F150 has the same spline as the pre 08 super dutys. Although nobody has figured out the cruise control buttons yet

No cruise so that doesn't bother me. Also, you're saying up to 2007 the wheels will work from a Super Duty as well?

Yes but they all look basically the same, just a different assortment of buttons. Cruise, Radio, Climate.

I'll search for an F150 steering wheel. One last question you say they haven't figured the cruise button but do you know if the air bag is compatible? Not a deal breaker but it would be nice. Thanks for all of the help.

Air bag can be rewired to work (like mine )...but I too am waiting for some help with the cruise control wiring. I've 'heard' that it can be done but so far nobody is willing to share HOW lol

Here is a place that will wrap and/or restore your wheel. You would have to have a cheap one to use while they do it:

Leather Steering Wheels | Repair | Restoration | Reupholstered

Thanks Rick but I want a nicer looking wheel not just my plain wheel to look nicer.
