ARE THE 6.7S MAKING OIL?????

Just checked my oil with 4700 miles since the last change. About 1400 of that was towing. I was very careful checking first thing in the morning, Oil level is well above fob on the "dippy" stick. 2 years ago on my way to California it got so high I had an oil change place suck a couple quarts out. I blamed much of that on the dealer in AZ putting in 14 quarts when they did an oil change for me. But, I believe it is making. My 6.4 (like a lot of others) made oil until i deleted. I couldn't find any other making oil threads, did I just miss them or is my truck special?

Bottle it and sell it!
Just joking. Fuel. Dilution? Something is getting in.

I think I may getting a little. It"s about 1/16" higher than at last change in 1600 miles. I'm going to just run it till oil change time and then send a sample into Blackstone. That way if it's excessive I'll have some ammo to use.

I think they make a little but no where near the 6.4PSD.

still have the same issues as the 6.4 and the regen cycle.

Did you ever get the DPF soot percentage screen activated?

That will help you to know when you are about to begin the regen and then you can also watch it go down to zero, thereby not shutting it down during the cycle.

I've been using a scangauge since my truck was new to monitor when regens start and when they're competed, and when they're about to start. I do my very best to complete all regens, but there have been a few times (maybe 1/2 doz) over the three years I've owned the truck (bought it in July 2014) that I've had to shut it down during a regen cause that's just life.

I do my own oil changes and check the oil pretty routinely. I believe my truck makes some oil.

I'm under the impression that all the modern Diesel engines with emissions equipment make a certain amount of oil due to regens. Is that correct??

close, but not always. My 6.4 didn't make any oil and my 6.7 does not either.

Sometimes use has more to do with it than anything.

I would also imagine that designs such as GM using a 9th injector would also make less oil, since the Diesel needed for regen is injected downstream of the engine, rather than into the cylinders.

Makes sense.

My truck definitely has been making oil since early last summer. Not very many short trips either. Fair amount towing. I guess it is what it is. I'm sending a sample from the next oil change to Blackstone. We'll see.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaving on a couple week trip tuesday so I just went ahead and changed the oil and filter. I'm just a bit under 5000 miles anyway so no big deal. Besides, oil is cheap compared to diesel engines. I am comforted to know others are having the same experience. It's not a big deal unless there is some kind of long term damage caused by the extra oil. I was gonna draw a sample and send it in but I had a senior moment and forgot.

There is no question that dpf equipped diesel engines make oil. They make more if you are using bio. Hot oil will cook out a lot of diesel but less if it's bio because of the composition of the bio. Somewhere back in my posting history you can find the EPA report on their study that proved all of that. They of course concluded that it does no harm.

Senix, I don't think I have whatever you were showing me. But I do have an Edge gizmo that monitors a bunch of stuff including the DPF cycle as well as the load level. But I have to tell you I don't do much to assist the burn off. This truck seems to have the cycle a lot more controlled than the 6.4 did. It does not seem to cause any problems if a cycle is interrupted. No crackling or stinking like the 6.4L. Just ho hum, i'll finish the next time you drive me.

Good to see you again Stan! Mine hasn't made any that I am aware of and I send my oil to Blackstone each time I change it. Where are you headin' off to this summer?
