Water pump choice: Cast or steel impellor???
Mod, this should be made a sticky.
While doing my build I read a bit about the debate regarding water pumps. It seems w/p's can be purchased with either a cast iron impeller or a stamped steel impeller. (that's the little propeller that pushes the water).
Well, eight years ago I installed the stamped steel version on my new engine. When it began to leak at the shaft I was upset because of the failure, but nonetheless excited to see if there was any deterioration on the impeller. I imagined impeller teeth half eaten away with rust and corrosion.
To my surprise, after 8 years, the impeller looked new! No rust or corrosion whatsoever! That settled the controversy for me.
NAPA is Latin for: double price/half warranty.
