Perhaps so. I saw the video below about how to fix the spring tension on an older car.

I went out to see the ones in my truck and they are similar in that they are seat belts, but the spring is either internal to the mechanism somehow or under a black cover on one side. The other side I can see the ratcheting and stop gears, but no spring. I may just take the mechanism out of the truck and see what I can see about fixing them.

The soaking in water for 24 hours did nothing in the way of recoiling the belt.

Just called Safety Restore to see if I could get a more suitable/agreeable answer and it was more of a cluster than the chat session.

Not using Safety Restore at all.

For no more than you just stated... you said quite a lot! I admire your discretion.

Thank you. I had typed up a short paragraph about the call. Then said to myself "maybe they are having a bad day and I have decided not to use them, but someone else might have the very opposite experience with them".

Now on the hunt for a new repair shop...

Send me a pic of which seat belt setup you have (base where retractor is). I am going back out to the Ford salvage yard this Friday to pull some 05+ axles, and I can grab you some if they have your color.

Thank you for taking the time to follow up and post this. I'm not going to use this service without some good reviews.

PM sent Mike.

I will wait until I hear back from Mike before looking into the other places noted above.

Thanks for the links though, this is a team effort.

You're breaking some new ground for us. The least we can do is pitch in on the research side of the effort.

Been having the same trouble for years now. The front two will only retract with help and the two rears will go about 1/2 way before needing assistance (I have two kids so the back belts get used a lot too).

Haven't come up with any resolutions that aren't new (I found the same price that Sous did). Yes safety is important but $1200 is not in the cards right now (I've got a substantial oil leak that requires the buck$zooka) when they still work (just don't retract worth a darn).

Suprisingly there are not may Superdutys or Excursions in the local pick-n-pulls. Even then that stuff is pretty well picked through early for those types of items. I keep checking occasionally on CL for a set but nothing. Either I'll end up coming across them or my wife will have had enough and authorize the purchase.

Mike has the requested information that I sent to him via text. Maybe he will find something Friday while he is hunting for parts.

If not, then I will be on the phone with the two places listed above. I WILL NOT call Safety Restore back though.

I got one of those 'phantom' posts here. countrycar shows posting at like 6:01 but Sous's post is the last one I find.

This is from 2013, but I found this article just now while doing some research. If you find it a bit long, just scroll down to the end, where it says now to the Original Report. It starts at "MY Dog chewed up his seatbelt"
I'm not saying they don't do good work as I personally have never used them. I just thought this to be an interesting read is all.
We have all had a bad experiences with a vendor at some point in our lives, but most of the time people want to try to do the right thing and make it right.
