Shift Lever Sticks in Park

A few months ago I couldn't get the shift lever out of park without trying multiple times. Then it was okay for about 5 months now it is back and worse.
It is not bound up because of parking on a hill or anything like that and I press very hard on the brake pedal. It take s multiple times to get it out of park trying turning the key on and off and so on.
The truck only has 86,000 miles on it and the transmission has always worked perfectly.
Any ideas/help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Check fuses for brake lights and if equipped, the fuse and pressure switch located on the master cylinder. Trans lock is released electrically. People have had issues with the brake switch, pressure switch on master, wiring rub through, and fuses blown from that. Fuse locations are noted in your manual, dealer repaired pressure switches may have an in-line fuse installed by the pressure switch.

Update.
Looked at the master cyl. and wires. All seem ok. Brake lights work. Sometimes it sticks in Park and some times not. If I turn the key to the #1 position I can shift to any gear without putting my foot on the brake. OF curse the motor isn't running at this time. Even if the motor is running and it is locked in park after turn the motor off and then turn key to #1 position I can shift to any gear. If I turn the key to the #2 position and all of the dash instruments come on then I sometimes can shift out of Park and sometimes not. Of course I have to put my foot on the brake here.
Any other input would be again greatly appreciated.

I would find the electrical wire going to the lockout so I could tap into it and watch voltage. It may also be ignition switch or multifunction switch related, or the wiring within especially if there was ever an alarm previously installed.

I know you said the brake lights work. But are you certain they are working when you can't get it out of park?
