Take it to a Dana/Spicer driveline shop. Costs about $90 to have them do it. Well worth the money and they will let you watch.

Just a thought!

What is this "shop" word of which you speak?

Not sure if you've checked out Blairsville, PA on a map, but that is my closest town and about 20 mins for me.

We don't have such places around here, LOL.

If we had places like that, upholstery shops, etc, my seats would be recovered already, too.

I appreciate the idea

I don't know if it will make it out to you but we have a nor'easter coming in for the weekend. Are you working indoors?

I was debating on how far into the garage to put the Ex. If I pull it all the way in, I can barely close the door and it is much tighter. If I let it hang out a little, it's much easier to move around.

I see the rain for Thurs, Fri, Sat on the map. I think I'll be cramped

Thanks for the heads up

It's too bad you're afraid to make the trip, we could get a lot accomplished here on both of our vehicles.

Very tempting I *might* be willing to drive that way with extra oil, but definitely not hauling the camper

You're welcome to come this way. The camper makes a nice "apartment"

The bulk of the work will probably happen Friday. Grill and beverages of your choice

It is a shop that specializes in Dana/Spicer components. They only stock Dana/Spicer parts, and are fast, accurate, and inexpensive and only 90 miles away. Your living in high cotton having a town only 20 miles away.

You can can do those seats in 2 hours with new leather from the Seat Shop. It is really easy!

"town" LOL.

Humor is sometimes regional. My comment was supposed to mean "the concept of having that kind of shop nearby is so unlikely that we don't even understand the concept"

I may be into seats in the future, but I am not good at finish work. I'd much rather do some horse trading with someone who is good at it, or bite the bullet and pay outright for it.

Not sure when, but I'll be sure to hit you up for more info on it when the time comes. Thanks.

No camper necessary here, my house is like a duplex and we only live in one side for now.

Heading that way sounds like fun, what's your nearest airport?

Big or small? Pittsburgh about 1.5hrs drive, Johnstown about 25mins drive, Latrobe about 25mins drive.

Unless you're flying your own plane, much faster/easier to drive

If you are flying and tell me what plane, I can talk to the neighbor sometime and setup for future to use his grass strip. Ours is long enough, but VERY rough- 4x4 crawling rough.

If it becomes a habit, I'll take the dozer up and likely able to clear enough, though underneath a lot of it is shale and clay

Definitely would be my Skyhawk, haven't landed on grass yet but it's doable. However, it's rain, rain, rain this weekend and I'm not current for IFR and that grass field's probably not IFR capable either.

You're right about that!

Google claims 3.5 hrs from your place by ground. That would make a nice leisurely aerial trip, but it's a bit far to drive, unless you stay in the camper/apartment, LOL.

Up to you, you're more than welcome.

I do appreciate the reciprocal offer, but for this kind of job, I would likely forget tools AND parts, LOL.

I sent you email with address and such

I'd bet that I could give your tool collection a run for the money. And what I don't have I could borrow off of Manny, Moe and Jack.

That would be interesting, LOL.

But it's sort of moot now, since I found that bad wheel/axle bearing unit and the new one won't be here until Friday. She is parked for now.

I plan to get back to the ball joints tomorrow.

Thanks again for the generous offer.

Rear Differential Parts Coming...

Okay, here is my previous thread, knew it was around somewhere, LOL.

I have a new rear differential pinion seal and outer bearing coming tomorrow.

My plan is to inspect the outer race as well, but I'm not going to tear apart the differential, it's beyond my skillset and knowledge to get all the gears and backlash set properly.

Hopefully it is all good. For under $20, it makes sense to replace that easy to do bearing while doing the seal.

What kind of GREASE should I use to pack the bearing? Standard wheel bearing grease, or something else?
