74 F-600 4x4 axles

Hi, I bought this truck today at an online auction, so I have not seen it in person and do not have the ability to get any info off of tags that may be there, at this point; but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the front drive axle on the truck. The only hub I know of that has a similar design are Colemans, but they don't really look like this. I've never seen anything else like it. Does anyone have info?

Post a pic of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face below the latch.

1971 was the first year that F600's were available with factory installed 4WD

The only axle I know of that would pull the hub out of the wheel center bore like that is a Coleman. Stu

As I said I don't have the truck in my possession yet.

Since you were a parts guy for a long time, do you know what other trucks those front fenders would have also been on? Thanks.

Here's another photo of the front and rear axles. Might have to turn your brightness up for the front.

Look for a similar metal tag on the drive axles as the warranty plate. (When you have truck in possession). Rear looks like a Rockwell could be F106 or H140 model.
The front most 4wd converter manufacturers used a F106 center section and housing variation of with their ends attached.

Thanks for all the info Bill. That's interesting.

Guess people need to replace right front fenders more often. Should be going to pick up the truck next week sometime after the check clears. I'll see what I can find on the front axle. From the design it seems like if must be a Coleman. I don't think anyone else makes them like that.

Great score! It's a Marmon-Herrington conversion, with the really rare "MC" series front axle. "MC" stands for "Marmon Coleman", and as you can see, it's a Marmon-Herrington center section, w/ Coleman hubs. I can only remember ever seeing one truck with this axle, and if I remember correctly, it was a much larger Super Duty from the 1960's. Since you could by an F-600 4x4 right from Ford (that was assembled by Ford w/M-H parts) in 1974, for a lot less money, I can't imagine very many of these were built.
Looks like other than the top of the cab, it's in great shape. You will probably find that it's been walked on and caved in. That causes the rear inner structure to pierce the outer skin, and water just pours in. I had to replace the top on my '78 F-7000 for the same reason.
Here is a link to the auction site, so everyone can see all of the pictures: https://www.purplewave.com/auction/170503/item/DA7768

It just so happens that I have a MC 9,12,17 repair manual. From the warranty and replacement parts certificate I received with the manual I assume its pre 1975. So it should be right in your wheel house. I can make you a copy for whatever that cost is plus shipping. Send me a pm if you are interested. Nice truck by the way. Looks to me like you are missing the power yoke disc inspection covers. Probably no biggie. Should be easy to make or have made.

Mark
