what do you guys do for soft tops?

i took the top of the bronco today, and thunk to myself, i oughta buy a softtop, just in case i get caught out in the rain

did a quick search online but all that is coming up are 600 dollar tops
that cant be right (im used to paying out the nose, im a mopar guy at heart) but this is ridiculous

so, what is the secret?

Softopper is the best reviewed top for the Bronco(that is still being made) and runs just under $900 shipped(a bit more with tinted windows). Some people use and enjoy the less expensive top just find but there is definitely a difference in quality between them.

man that's a chunk of change

i mostly bought the bronco as a plow vehicle, but the kids like it (my 7 year old referred to it as a baby monster truck)

so i figured i might as well drive it occasionally during the summer, keep the juices flowing and what not

but i think a 900 dollar top is more then what i need for this truck

really, the only purpose it needs to meet is keep the backseat and carpet dry if i happen to get caught in the rain

tinted windows?
i dont even need windows at this point

Then take the top off and drive around or buy the cheaper top. Seems like an easy problem to solve.

I would guess the discrepancy in price between Jeep tops and Bronco is supply &
demand. The few making tops for the Bronco can charge whatever they want due to lack of competition.

that is exactly the plan
only hitch is, i thought there might be something cheaper then 600 bucks

i wasnt comparing it to jeeps, in fact other, then the missus brand X family hauler this is our first 4x4

my daily driver (weather permitting) is a 71 plymouth duster...not a whole lot of aftermarket love for them either

All the other mfg's have either gone out of business(Skyler) or gotten absorbed by other entities(Rampage). There's really only the two brands now, that being Rampage and Softopper.

Keep your eyes peeled in your local CL, maybe create some alerts so you can snap one of the used tops that rarely pop up if you really want one but don't want to pay the new price. Someone over on FSB just sold a like-new top for $300 or $350, IIRC.

Just a heads up, JBG is having a sale on them right now: This Month, Save On Soft Tops And More!

That being said, JBG's shipping almost always ruin any good deal you might be getting on the item but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I am planning on building my own. I'm going to cut up another hardtop so I have a good mounting point, and have a boat cover shop make me a cover that snaps on
