Do the front parking lights go out when the headlights are on?

In your initial post you said the PL's are on regardless of ignition switch position; note that the light switch is not fed thru the ignition switch.
Ross,
Yes.

Update: I just finished updating the front pl wires with the correct wires, and now two things happen:
- rear lamp is still on continuously
- front pl are on when switch is in off position, and yes they go out when headlights are on.

I was under the impression the pl were supposed to go out when the hl are switched on.

This is going to sound crazy, but try pulling on and pushing off the lights several times quickly. If there's something internally shorting the two contacts, maybe that will break it loose.

But, if you can get to it with a meter, just check for continuity between the two posts with power removed.
Could be Joe.

I am going to Pick up a meter with continuity function this weekend to see if there is a continuity issues. I am also thinking that I need to remove and give a solid cleaning with q-tip and isopropyl. Maybe I can clean it off well enough to fix the issue.

Maybe not.

The town parade is coming up in early June. Hope to have it nailed down in time to roll through the hamlet in the slow lane.

Front PL's are not on when the headlights are on, on a stock switch.

It almost sounds like your switch isn't going in all the way to "off".

Update:
Removed and cleaned the switch. Reinstalled, and the problem persisted. I removed the switch altogether to see if the switch had anything to do with the problem. Short answer, no. So I am now looking at the CBK or the break switch, as these are the two remaining potential sources.

Am I correct regarding the cbk being an all or none item (can't replace the individual components)?

But then again, the Rear pl has nothing to do with the cbk. The diagram basically has the 13B wire to rear pl going from the switch to the lamp. Hmmm...

Solved! Lowest common denominator.

In short, it was a faulty double splice wire connector. The first connection downstream from the firewall, where the body harness ties into the dash harness.

Swapped it out with two individual splice connectors, and there it was.

Thanks again for entertaining the topic!

New POS splice

The solution.

Glad you found it. Removing the switch and still having the problem meant it had to be a short somewhere.

Good job!

I suspect that isn't a double splice but a 4-way splice, all 4 corners connected. Useful for connecting grounds.

In hind sight, I would have to agree. Chalk it up to a rookie error.

It was nice to get it fixed and move on to the next stage.

Thanks again Ross!

Yeah, I think that's what Ford used on our dome lamp wiring for the door switches... but maybe I should just go away again. I usually don't know what I'm talking about.
