1977 F600 361 wiring problem

I bought a "ran when parked" and I am trying to put it back together. The distributor cap was off and no points in it. I put a Pertonix with a coil back in. New starter solenoid. Engine turns over but doesn't try to start, but when I arc it from the solenoid it is trying. Question is, what is the ignition wiring diagram. Everything I find shows an ignition module?? There was also a red and blue wire from the firewall that wasn't connected to anything. What wire goes on the coil other then the pertonix red and black??

Thanks

Are there any other wires going to the (+) side of the coil? You need 12 volts there to fire it up. Is the coil you're using a stocker? Or aftermarket, and does it need a resistor?

It is a pertonix coil, they say you don't need the resistor. I hooked the red and blue wire from the firewall to the pos side of the coil and is not working.

No 1974/78 500 and larger series truck with an FT engine has a module.

DuraSpark electronic ignition:

Some 1974/75 Passenger Cars; F100/350, Bronco & Econoline. ALL of these after 1975.

Some 1975 F500/600 with 300 I-6; Some 1976/79 trucks with 300 I-6 & 401/477/534 (gas V8's); Some 1979 trucks with 370/429 (gas V8's).

ALL 1980 and later trucks.

Thank you Number Dummy, I did find the module. Previous owner hotwired it so I'm not sure what he did. I put an ignition switch in but there is still some wire shenanigans going on. Do you know where I can find the right year wire diagram?

Try faxonautolit.com .. located in Riverside CA

Module factory installed on the left fender inner apron, just in front of the firewall, but your 1977 F600 w/361 FT engine didn't come with it originally.

So a wiring diagram will not show the module unless the truck has a 300 I-6 or 401/477/534 V8. 370/429 not available until 1979.

So now when I arc the two large posts on the solenoid I get it to fire, but when I use the ignition, I just get maybe one second of spark and then nothing!! What gives, any ideas???

you're getting voltage to the coil in "start" - but not in "run".

DO you have a test light or a volt meter? Turn the key to "run" and check for voltage between the + side of the coil and ground.

From the symptoms, I'd say you won't have any voltage.

If you haven't removed the resistor already, it may be blown, or it's the ignition switch.

The resistor in the distributor has been removed. Do you know how to bypass the ignition switch and jump it from the wiring harness?

Run a wire straight from the + terminal of the battery to the + terminal of the coil.

See if it runs like that.

Ok, I said resistor but I meant the condenser in the distributor is removed. The pink (looks red to me) is the resistor? I did try a hot wire from the battery to the + of the coil and still nothing. My test light flashes from my coil wire to the distributor but I only get maybe one flash on my plug wires.

I think maybe moving this to the FE/FT forum might get you a lot more answers about this wiring situation. What do you think?

I don't know how to do that but sounds good to me.
