Being that rusty, I'm surprised it didn't break sooner.

Thankfully this didn't happen on the road.

wow.
i've said it before ... you guys in the rust belt face some serious challenges !
never even considered the possibility of a steering shaft rusting through.
could be the ex-wife has been sneaking in and applying some corrosive acid ???

I live in the rust belt and we've had 4 OBS trucks in the past 24 years, and I've never seen a steering shaft that rusty.
My Dad still has his 93 that he bought 20 years ago, it has been through 2 beds, an entire cab, 1 door, a bumper and countless brake lines, but it still has the original steering shaft which has very little rust on it.

That truck must have been driven through the ocean or something
