Cruise control swap?????

I posted this in the Powerstroke section but haven't received a response......Ive got a 96 Powerstroke 5 speed with no cruise......I just picked up a 95 Power stroke 5 speed with cruise.......I would like to put the cruise off of the 95 on the 96..........Anyone done it?????? What am I getting into???

At the top of the forum there is a sticky, read first, tech thread that addresses cruise control, and adding it. It mainly applies to gas engines but I would think some of the Items listed would also apply to a diesel set up.

that would be where to start.

Speed Control on Powerstroke trucks is controlled by the PCM. There is no Speed Control servo like gas engine trucks use.

The buttons on the steering wheel go directly to the PCM.

Yes I realize that the cruise runs thru the PCM......but are all PCM's cruise compatible???

If you're dedicated to getting cruise, the first step is to get the wheel and column (IIRC, you were going to swap columns, right?) installed. Then just try it. If it doesn't work, you might have to try a different PCM, or find someone who can flash your PCM to enable cruise.

Do you have AE or any other device/software that can communicate with the PCM?
