2001 F250 V10 with Cabover Camper????

Hi Fellow Ford Travelers,

Still looking to replace my 1990 Ford F250 4x4 regular cab V8 7.5L gas engine pickup we use for our Lance Cabover Camper (2200 lb dry weight). Great truck but need a king cab for kids and dogs (more than one).

I found a 2001 Ford F250 4x4 with a v10 engine, 39,700 miles on the engine for $12,700. Should I look at it? If yes, what should I look for? Apparently the owner is the original owner and is now older and needs to sell it. The only thing the truck was used for was to tow an 18 foot Nomad trailer.

Advice?

That's really low miles. My 2009 has 106k, without problems.I have an 8.5 foot cabover. With just the camper, I get about 10 mpg.

How many miles on the chassis? That price seems high for a 2001 with a possible replacement engine. Go look at it. You never know, you could find that Diamond that shines in a goats ****. Check for service records. Check ball joints, exhaust manifold studs, spark plugs for blowouts. Specifically if there are Timeserts or helicoils. PCV valve and related hoses for vacuum leaks. See if the vacuum hubs work on the 4X4 ESOF system.

That truck sells for about $4k at auction regardless of miles.

$12k is a little high, but I've never seen a clean super duty 4x4 for that cheap. even a stripped XL will go for $8k-$10k around here depending on miles.

12K with the original engine and that few miles would fetch about 12K here in the PNW (if the truck was in good shape). I see 99-04 V10's around here on CL asking around 8K for the bare bones 150K mileage kind of truck.

YMMV depending on the area
