1992 302 possible crank seal damage?

Hey everyone

Moving along in our 302 to BMW 318is engine swap.. I've pulled the crank pulley off along with the pulley bolt.

Picked up a harmonic balancer puller to make my life easier.. once the bolt was out, I removed the large metal washer exposing some rubber that looks squeezed out from inside.. I'm thinking this is a blown crank seal.. but I've never done this work on a 302 before. Hoping someone can help identify this.

I'm pulling the timing cover off anyways for some additional work inside but this is a bit suspect.. thoughts?

I'd wager it is just some misplaced RTV silicone.. maybe the PO put a big blob on the crank key to keep it in place while the balancer was installed. There is a key in that keyway isn't there? If not that is the bigger issue, the seal looks fine in those pictures.

If by 'key' you mean this little slot that i see on the crank shaft.. then yes it looks like it's there...

That "blob" of RTV Black Silicone is to help keep the Oil where it is supposed to be. Works in conjunction with the Crank Oil Seal.
