So I'm considering the idea of at some point in the near future trading my F-150 for a used Ranger from about the early to mid-2000's so I can eliminate my monthly payment. What I'll be looking for is preferably a super-cab with the 4.0 SOHC and 4x4 and automatic. Wife can't drive a stick.
My question is what are the known problem areas on these trucks? What should I look for in regards to the 4.0 engine or the 5R55 transmission. I'm much more knowledgeable on the older Rangers, and don't have much experience with the newer models. I do know that frame rust becomes a concern in some parts of the country.
