88 F150 Stalling on Highway
#18
Well I haven't been around much to give you guys the latest news.
I put the MOTORCRAFT TFI in the truck and it Ran fine for a long 2 hour drive. The next day wouldnt you know it, It stalled on the highway just as before. I am questioning the stator(pickup coil) now. I bought one but I don't know how to remove the Gear/collar from the distributor? Anyone know an easy way to do it? Also I remember When I put my first TFI mod on I changed out the Ingnition coil. After that is when it started to shut off on me.
THanks

Names of items change as we go forward in time and most of the time we call it by the new name.
We do not call the starter by its old name commencer.
Or the distributor by its old name timer.
Although my grandfather called them by those names until he was no longer with us.
But why would anybody call something in a new system by a part name in an old system that is no longer used when the part preforms a new function.
The old pick-up coil worked with an ignition module only and was not a sensor but an inductor for the system.
The newer Hall-Effect switch is an off an on switch and is a senor for a computer and then the computer tells the ICM to fire the coil. True the ICM will fire the coil if it is disconnected from the computer but that is not the way it is meant to work.
